Oh Hello There 2012

So many times in the last two months I meant to get on here and write a post. Over Christmas I wanted to write about the cynical attitude I had adopted. In the beginning of December I meant to post an update about my new (and awesome job).

But I didn’t do either of those things. I’ve just been so busy. So now that I’ve made my way over here, I ought to fill you in on how life has been.

Goodbye November

Oh I have been bad. Over a month since my last post. Why? Cause I have been so flipping busy.

I am a freelancer! Whoo-hoo! For the past month and a half, I have morphed into a freelance tech writer for PCWorld and TapCentral. So almost everyday, I’ve been writing. Post after post, news story after news story, on tech goodness the likes of which I couldn’t have imagined I’d be covering back when I graduated. So yay, I have reached phase one of my dream/career of being a writer.

Crunchy Remedies for Facial Woes; A Book Review

Adult acne. It sucks. It sucks more when you feel like you are fighting a loosing battle because you can’t use certain weapons. I won’t go into tons of detail, but lets just say this something I’ve dealt with for the last two years.

In recent months I have been adopting more natural remedies to fight the acne war. Call me a hippie, call me crunchy, call me whatever, I don’t really care. These remedies really work, and work much better than the countless commercial acne skin care systems I’ve tried.

It all started about six months ago. I was searching the web for ways to get rid of acne and came across a mention in a forum about washing your face with oil. Horrified, I thought “Oil? On my oily face? What?”. I did a Google search to get more information before I completely shut my mind to it. Enter Crunchy Betty. With her article on the oil cleansing method , my skepticism melted away. The logic made sense and I figured, I’ll give this a try. And my face cleared up! For the first time in about a year my breakouts were diminished significantly and I didn’t have to spend a ton of money.

Since then I put a lot of faith into Crunchy Betty, also known as Leslie, who runs a great website on “crunchy” living and natural practices for everyday life. I’ve adopted other skin cleansing routines, such as washing my face with honey and using baking soda as a facial scrub, all while seeing significant improvement in my skin.

A few weeks ago Leslie released her first eBook, “Crunchy Betty’s Food on Your Face for Acne and Oily Skin“.  When I first found out she was releasing a book about treating acne and oily skin I was excited! It was just what I needed. Luckily, Crunchy Betty didn’t disappoint; the advice and recipes are fabulous for breakouts and oily skin. I’m not writing this to promote her book or to sell anything, I’m writing because I really believe in all the advice she gives.

So, here’s my PSA: if you have tried everything else for your oily, broken-out skin, check out Crunchy Betty. Open your mind to natural remedies for common skin care woes, it might just surprise you.

Thanks Steve

I know I am doing nothing more than adding to the barrage of blog posts that are discussing and documenting Steve Jobs’ untimely passing. I don’t care. His death has struck a chord with me, so I must post my thoughts.

When I heard the news this afternoon I was deeply saddened. Death has been and will always be a difficult subject for me. I know what it is to have profound loss and will always empathize with those who’ve been left behind. Tonight I think about Steve’s wife and kids.

Beyond the sadness over his passing, I thought about Steve’s revolutionary contributions to technology. I wondered how his death will affect Apple as a company, especially since it came one day after a lackluster Apple announcement that was met with an underwhelming response from tech pundits and consumers alike. My thoughts after Jobs’ resignation were that he’d still have some say in Apple’s business and product development. Now I question what the future of Apple will look like now that he’s gone, I am sure that it will never be the same.

In conclusion, I want to join the many who are saying  Thank You to Steve Jobs. Tonight I started an extended learning class and I brought my iPad with me to take notes. It was awesome; I wish I had an iPad in college, life would have been easier. So thanks Steve Jobs,  for making my life easier, allowing me to take 50 CDs with me wherever I went when I got my first iPod at 16, and thank you for producing the first computer I ever used. Rest in Peace.

I posted about Apple and Steve Jobs back in August when he resigned as CEO, for all my thoughts about the company and him as a person, you can read that post.

Sunny September

Well hello there sunshine and warm weather, San Francisco sure has missed you. Today is a very warm day in San Francisco, almost hot even. San Franciscans know that September is one of the nicest months in the city; we get a nice Indian summer that warms the city and gives us perfectly clear skies. In fact all last weekend was gorgeous–I spent Sunday hiking the Lands End Trail at the northern most point of San Francisco under a cloudless sky (more on that later).

If you can’t tell, I have an affinity for  the Transamerica Pyramid. I also happen to work around the corner from it. I went out for coffee this afternoon and couldn’t help but snap a pic of the building against the blazing sun.
